Close protection is the personal safeguarding of a designated individual, the principal, by a trained, licensed officer who accompanies them and manages the risks around their day. Why UK close protection is different, and better
UK close protection is unarmed by law and works by avoidance, not confrontation. Private civilians cannot carry firearms without specific Home Office authorisation, and reputable UK CP providers operate strictly within that constraint. That makes UK tradecraft distinctively good at what actually keeps principals safe: early threat identification, route and venue planning, behavioural awareness, and quiet withdrawal. A well-executed UK CP day is one nothing appears to happen on.

A close protection detail is not one job, it is several disciplines running in parallel. On any given day a Valorous CPO may be:
Behind the operator sits a Valorous operations desk. The desk holds the plan, tracks movements, monitors live intelligence, and is the single number the officer calls if anything changes.
- Advance-reconning a venue the principal will attend that evening, checking arrival and departure routes, cover, exits, hospital proximity and staff at pinch points.
- Managing arrivals and departures, the highest-risk moments of any day, coordinating with a security driver and the destination team.

Every mandate begins with a written threat, vulnerability and lifestyle assessment, what the principal actually does, who they interact with, where the exposure lies, and what an intelligent adversary could exploit. From there we agree an operational plan: number of officers, hours, transport, communications, escalation protocols and the named director accountable for the mandate.
Operators are matched to the principal, profile, family, culture, language, industry. We do not rotate strangers through a client's home. On long-running mandates we hold a small named team and grow familiarity over time.
Our commercial model is transparent. Operator wages are shown at cost; a fixed management fee sits above them for director-led oversight and governance. Clients see exactly what pays the operator and what pays for the standard.
